Course Description
As a group, adults with Down syndrome (DS) have poorer health and greater difficulty accessing primary care than do others in the general population. They have different patterns of illness and comorbidities.
This case-based educational workshop on health promotion for people with Down syndrome will increase your awareness of specific health issues affecting people with Down syndrome.
The workshop will be based on the Primary care of adults with developmental disabilities: Canadian consensus guidelines (2011) that provide general, physical, behavioural, and mental health recommendations for adults with DD. It will also demonstrate the Health Watch Table – Down Syndrome.
Participants will discuss cases in light of the guidelines and strategies for applying related tools. An emphasis will be on challenges from participants’ practices in caring for people with Down syndrome.
